Please be advised that all research proposals submitted by 嫩草影院's (嫩草影院) research faculty, research staff and graduate students that involve the use of animal models, human subjects, radioactive isotopes and/or certain chemicals and biological hazardous substances must be approved by the respective University Research Compliance Committee (URCC). Principal Investigators may refer to 嫩草影院 policies and procedures for the use of subjects and substances in research on the Division of Research and Innovation's website. Additionally, the investigator may contact the office of Research Enhancement and Compliance Services (RECS) Director/staff or the respective committee chairs for advice on subject/substance use protocols relative to state and federal agency regulations and 嫩草影院 guidelines and policies.The completion of applications and/or relevant forms and approval of protocols by the respective committee is mandatory and should be done before the submission of proposals to funding agencies, and before the implementation of any research project involving the use of agency regulated subjects and/or substances.

Hence, it is imperative that the appropriate application and/or forms are completed and submitted to the committees well in advance of rigid deadlines. Applicants should submit their applications 6 weeks in advance of scheduled committee meeting dates to allow ample time for the review process and approval notification. Investigators should contact the respective committee chair(s) when uncertain of whether or not a protocol should be submitted for review.

Institutional Biological & Chemical Safety Committee (IBC)

This committee provides general oversight for activities involving the use of biohazardous agents and hazardous chemicals at 嫩草影院 (嫩草影院). The CBSC's primary goal is to safeguard the protection of personnel, the general public and the environment. In order to meet this goal, the committee provides guidelines for requirements for safe laboratory, biological and chemical safety practices; establishes, reviews and approves policies, procedures, and training pursuant to the safe use of hazardous biological and chemical substances. Additionally, the CBSC provides consulting services to 嫩草影院 researchers and advisement to the Office of Research on all aspects of biological and chemical safety, including guidance and assistance concerning hazardous waste management and disposal on the campus of 嫩草影院.

Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)

According to U.S. federal law, institutions that use laboratory animals for research or instructional purposes must establish an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) to oversee and evaluate all aspects of the institution's animal care and use program.

Each institution that receives Public Health Service (PHS) support for activities involving vertebrate animals or is subject to the authority of the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) must operate an animal care and use program with clear lines of authority and responsibility. The program must include:

a properly constituted and functioning Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC);
procedures for self monitoring;
an adequate veterinary care program
an occupational health and safety program
a personnel training program
an environment, housing and management program for animals; and
appropriately maintained facilities for housing and support.

Institutional Review Board (IRB)

The purpose of the IRB is to review research proposals involving human subjects and to ensure that proper precautions will be taken to ensure the safety and rights of participants. Such review is intended to emphasize the important role of ethics in conducting research as well as to protect the participants, researchers, advisers, and the university against potential risks and liabilities.

Radiation Safety Committee

The RSC collectively assumes responsibility from the standpoint of radiological safety for the University involving radioactivity or radiation-producing devices. The Committee reviews and approves applications for Radioactive Material License (or License Renewal),and amendments to the radioactive materials license to be submitted to the Texas Bureau of Radiation Control. The committee reviews and grants permission or disapproves the use of radioactivity or radiation producing devices within 嫩草影院, the Committee reviews and prescribes special conditions, requirements and restrictions that will be necessary to protect 嫩草影院 personnel and the general population from health hazards associated with radioactivity and radiation producing devices located at Texas Southern University, including but not restricted to accelerators, reactors and x-ray devices. Such condition requirements and restrictions shall be made in accordance with State, Federal and City regulations. The committee prepares and disseminates information on radiological protection and provides training for the use and guidance of staff and students, the committee reviews and approves the Radiation Safety Manual. When and where necessary the Committee has the authority to form a Radiation Subcommittee to develop and propose amendments to the Radiation Safety Manual as deemed required.

University Research Committee

The University Research Committee consists of research coordinators from each College/School, along with the Associate Provost for Research. The Research Committee is responsible for the oversight, implementation and refinement of the University's Comprehensive Research Plan. Additionally, they periodically evaluate the research agenda and facilitate the Seed Grant award process.
